1960s detached home renovation
This 1960s detached house, located in Reigate, Surrey had remained largely untouched since its construction. The client required a complete refurbishment and extension to modernise the property while enhancing its original charm. Our clients needed our comprehensive services - which encompass everything from concept design through to planning, building regulation approval, tendering, and completion.
Our vision for the property centred on creating a contemporary single-storey side extension with a striking zinc roof. This extension houses a dual-aspect kitchen/dining/living room, designed to be the heart of the home. The open-plan layout allows natural light to flood into the space, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for both relaxation and entertaining.
The new extension includes a kitchen that blends with the dining and living areas. The off-white materials and finishes reflect natural light and enhance the contemporary design to provide a luxurious feel throughout. Adjacent to this area, we incorporated a utility room, an office and a garage, adding both functionality and convenience.
One of the standout features of this renovation is the strong connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The dining and living areas open onto a spacious patio via a new veranda, providing a perfect transition to the rear garden. This design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also encourages outdoor living, ideal for family gatherings and social events. A pair of window seats look out onto the verandah.
To balance the modern rear extension, we added a new bay window to the front of the house. This feature complements the original entrance canopy and enhances the home's kerb appeal, providing a harmonious blend of old and new elements.
